Colour Coating & Surface Painting

With the rise of people interested in playing sports, Leisure centres, Tennis clubs and schools are wanting a professional and eye-catching look to their surfaces to encourage customers to use their facilities.

Whilst painted courts are aesthetically pleasing. The coating has many other important benefitting factors.

  • Enhances both the look and play of the surface

  • Improves slip resistance making it safer for the users

  • Reduces the breakdown of the bitumen and prolongs the life of the courts

After time and use your sports surface will weather and lose its slip-resistance. If left for too long the top layer of the macadam may start to break apart and become dangerous, leaving you with a surface that is a health and safety risk and potentially unusable.

By having your courts painted or re-painted, not only will you be protecting and prolonging the life span of the tarmacadam but it will also be safer for the users.

The correct choice of cleaning, paint and binders are essential if the surface is to have the correct level and performance, slip resistance, porosity and durability.

If you need further advice, Contact Us and we will answer any questions you may have.

In most cases we will need to clean and power wash the surface, to remove any and all dirt and contaminants prior to application.

Dependent on the age and condition of the court surface, we may need to do some repair work should there be any large pits or cracks. A binder coat may be applied to old fretting tarmac. Binder penetrates the top later of macadam and cures to reinforce and strengthen the bitumen without affecting the porosity.

The paint we use is specifically designed for sports surfaces and consists of a low glare water-based acrylic medium which is applied by a high-pressure airless spraying method. It will be sprayed on in two even coats for maximum coverage but without affecting the porosity of the surface.

The standard colours we offer are:

  • Dark Green

  • Light Green

  • Dark Blue

  • Light Blue

  • Light Grey

  • Dark Grey

  • Terracotta

We can provide other colours on request

We use a non-slip, anti-fungicide mix paint which meets the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and All England Netball Association (AENA) slip resistance standards and specification. ITF CS/02/01 (ITF 1997)

The paint needs a dry surface on the days of application and ground temperatures of at least 12 degrees for 72 hours after application to fully cure. Due to weather and temperature conditions during the winter months we do not advise you to have your surfaces painted as this can cause issues with the paint and quality of finish.

It is also useful to note that your sports surface will need be out of use for the duration of the day(s) we are on site and possibly the following day dependant on the weather. This is for the surface user’s safety whilst we are using the equipment and so that the paint has the optimal time to cure before normal use commences.
